What is the Canada Learning Bond (CLB)?

The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) is a gift from the Government of Canada that gets deposited directly into an Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP).  The money is issued in two stages:

  • Stage 1: you’ll get $500 for the first year you qualify2
  • Stage 2: you’ll get $100 for each additional year you qualify, up until they turn 152

You may qualify for the CLB if:

  • You are modest income family (under $57,375 household income and have up to 3 children)3
  • You may have gotten a letter from the Government of Canada
  • You want to save for your child’s education after high school
